Brodi-jo Scalise

writer/director/producer

about me

Raised in the small town of Hope, BC, Canada, Brodi unknowingly began his filmmaking career at the impressionable age of 8 years old after being traumatized from watching a VHS copy of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. Then, only weeks later, his babysitter showed him SCREAM & THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Despite years of sleepless nights, this early exposure sparked a thrill for boundary-pushing genre films.

Brodi-Jo Scalise completed his Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts at Vancouver, Canada’s Capilano University. Upon graduation he entered the local film/tv scene, spending a number of years in the production office space working as production coordinator on projects such the NETFLIX hit series VIRGIN RIVER, in addition to working for various studios like DISNEY & UNIVERSAL STUDIOS.

In 2020, Brodi wrote & directed the short horror film ITSY BITSY SPIDER, a provocative exploration of infidelity told with the use of live tarantulas. The short was acquired by Canada’s national broadcaster CBC for domestic distribution, with Gunpowder & Sky’s ALTER taking international rights – in addition to a successful global film festival circuit. The film earned prizes such as Best Short Cinematography (LEO Awards 2021) & Best Score (Chilliwack Independent Film Festival 2021). He is currently in post-production on his latest short film titled FAMILY DESCENT, a dark comedy/horror about the pressures to continue the family line.

Among other projects, Brodi is also developing a feature film based on the true events of a notorious Canadian satanic panic scandal from the 90s. He remains committed to telling distinctly personal stories thru a subversive genre lens.
